— Schenectady County Community College President Quintin Bullock will be appointed this morning to the Capital Region Economic Development Council.

Bullock has led SCCC since July 2009. During that time, the college has instituted new programs in battery storage technology and alternative energy and health care; built a new dormitory; constructed a 13,000-square-foot music wing addition; and launched a new satellite location at Center City in downtown Schenectady.

Bullock has more than 17 years of experience in higher education leadership. He is also an active board member at Ellis Medicine, the Center for Economic Growth, the Chamber of Schenectady County, Proctors and the Schenectady Free Health Clinic.

Bullock said in a statement that he is honored to serve on the council.

“Community colleges are an essential component to economic vitality throughout our region. Bringing leaders in higher education together with leaders from the public and private sectors will help break down barriers and drive economic growth,” he said.

Bullock will be the only Schenectady County resident on the council, which has seen some changes in its leadership recently. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute President Shirley Ann Jackson resigned in December as co-chairperson and was replaced by University at Albany President Robert J. Jones. The other co-chairperson, SEFCU President Michael Castellana, resigned earlier in 2012 and was replaced by Albany Medical Center President and CEO Jim Barba.

Always check this guy's numbers. SCCC went through a period of workforce development leadership that was inept and prone to gross overstatement of data
