HOOSICK A gasoline tanker has crashed and exploded in Rensselaer County, injuring the driver and sending fuel pouring into a creek.
Authorities say the driver ran off Route 7 at a curve and the truck rolled down a 30-foot embankment, toppling over and exploding in the creek bed in the town of Hoosick just before noon Wednesday.
State police say the driver was burned on the head and shoulders. He’s been taken to a burn unit in Westchester County.
A fire official tells local media outlets the truck was carrying 8,500 gallons of gasoline and 1,000 of diesel when it ruptured and burned.
State environmental crews are working to contain the spill in the Hoosick River tributary.
Hoosick is in Rensselaer County, 28 miles northeast of Albany.
