Forster, Albany women too much for Maine

— Senior forward Julie Forster finished with a game-high 25 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season, leading University at Albany to an 86-54 rout of Maine in an America East Conference women’s basketball game at Alfond Arena Saturday afternoon.

The first-place Great Danes improved to 20-3 on the season and 11-0 in America East play, while Maine fell to 2-21 overall and 1-9 in league action.

Maine took its first lead of the game over the defending league champions on a three-pointer by Brittany Wells with 10:45 on the clock to put the Black Bears ahead, 18-16.

The Great Danes later scored nine unanswered points to take a 27-20 lead and then ended the first half on a 22-4 run to hold a 40-24 advantage at the halftime break.

UAlbany continued to roll as the second half started, extending the lead to 21, 51-30, on a steal and layup by Ebone Henry with 16:12 left to play. The Great Danes built up a 25-point lead on a layup by Keyana Williams at 14:30, but Maine cut its deficit to 19 on a fast break layup by Wells at 12:49. Tammy Phillip and Shereesha Richards connected on back-to-back baskets to push the Great Dane lead to 61-38 with 11:45 on the clock.

Along with Forster, UAlbany got double-digit scoring totals from Lindsey Lowrie and Henry with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

UAlbany will have a week off before heading to Hartford to take on the Hawks on Feb. 17.
