Broadalbin-Perth voters approve capital project
BROADALBIN & PERTH Residents of the Broadalbin-Perth Central School District overwhelmingly voted in favor of a $2.155 million capital project that will address roofing and technology needs and allow the district to purchase about 40 acres of land.
The 328-97 vote allows the district to move forward with the repairs without impacting school taxes. Most of the funds will go toward replacing sections of roofing at the district’s Broadalbin and Perth campuses. About $450,000 will be used to upgrade the district’s core technology infrastructure, which includes installing wireless Internet access points in all school buildings. The district will also spend $65,000 to buy about 40 acres of land next to its Perth campus, which it plans to use to expand parking at a later date.
State aid will cover 81.3 percent of the project cost, with the rest covered by the the district’s share of New York state’s EXCEL program and funding from debt service reserves.
