NYPD: Officers shoot, wound man who had a gun
NEW YORK — Authorities say New York City police officers shot and wounded a man who was pointing a gun at them.
It happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Treadwell Avenue on Staten Island.
Police say the two officers had approached a man who matched a description of a suspect in a home invasion.
Police say man fled, followed by the officers, and then turned and pointed a handgun at them. The officers fired two shots, hitting the man in the torso.
He was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Charges against him are pending. One of the officers was treated for a knee injury and the other for tinnitus from the gunshot sounds.
Authorities recovered a gun and ammunition at the scene.
