— Jack Brock, coach of the Saratoga Springs boys’ varsity basketball team, has been placed on temporary leave from his coaching responsibilities due to the use of inappropriate language with the team, it was announced today.

Superintendent of Schools Michael Piccirillo said Brock's actions violated the school district’s coaching handbook.

In Brock’s absence, the team will be coached by assistants Greg Goering and Damian Fantauzzi, Piccirillo said.

“This is an unfortunate situation,” the superintendent said. “We hold all of our employees and students to high standards of behavior, and they are held accountable when they fail to meet those standards.”

The school district will provide the team with the support necessary to compete in the remaining games of this season, Piccirillo added.

Brock is a physical education teacher at the Geyser Road Elementary School, and the coaching suspension does not affect his employment there.

School district officials made the decision concerning the suspension this morning following an investigation and a meeting with Brock.

The team plays at Shenendehowa tonight.
