Schenectady's "One Book" title: "The Dirty Life"
SCHENECTADY The Schenectady County Public Library's 2014 One County, One Book title for 2014 with be “The Dirty Life: A Memoir of Farming, Food, and Love” by Kristin Kimball, the library said in a press release this morning.
The community reading program is in its eighth year.
According to the release, the memoir tells the story of Kristin, who as a young New York City writer interviewed a farmer for a story. Kristin knew nothing about growing vegetables, let alone raising pigs and cattle and driving horses. But on an impulse, smitten, if not yet in love, she shed her city self and moved to five hundred acres near Lake Champlain to start a new farm with him. “The Dirty Life” is the chronicle of their first year on Essex Farm, from the cold North Country winter through the following harvest season—complete with their wedding in the loft of the barn.
The author will speak at Schenectady County Community College on March 27.
