Fire damages building on SUNY Cortland campus
CORTLAND — Officials at the State University of New York College at Cortland say one of the oldest buildings on campus will reopen for business after being damaged by a fire that started in the attic.
SUNY Cortland officials say the fire started around 9 a.m. Monday in the attic of the academic building known as Old Main. Officials say local firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and no one was injured.
The 80-year-old building was evacuated during the fire.
Officials say the fire started in an attic mechanical room. The blaze damaged the roof and lower floors sustained water damage. Repairs will begin this week.
The building will re-open Tuesday. SUNY Cortland is on break until Jan. 22.
Old Main opened in 1923, four years after a fire destroyed the college's original building.
