Reel Seafood stays in family with sale to daughter

— The owner of Reel Seafood Co. on Wolf Road has sold the restaurant to his 28-year-old daughter, Aliki Serras.

LeGrande Serras, a third-generation restaurant owner, opened the independent seafood restaurant in a former pancake house on Wolf Road in 1983.

His daughter already has big plans for Reel Seafood.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for me,” Aliki Serras said. “There are so many great opportunities here for the restaurant, for our staff and for the community.”

She plans to invest more than $1 million to renovate the fine-dining restaurant, she said.

Serras also has hired a new executive chef, Dustin Aipperspach, a former Colorado restaurant owner. She plans to introduce a new menu to elevate many of Reel Seafood’s traditional dishes.

The restaurant will have a Mediterranean- and Aegean-inspired look.

Both the sale and remodeling costs are being financed through Berkshire Bank and a private investor.

Bar seating will double to 32, and restaurant seating will increase slightly to 228. A grand reopening is planned for the weekend of Jan. 25.

Reel Seafood will close briefly following dinner on Jan. 5, with renovations scheduled from Jan. 6 through Jan. 20. During that time, the restaurant’s 50 employees will receive training on the new menu.

Aliki Serras, who grew up around the restaurant, began working full-time at Reel Seafood in 2008. She has held jobs as a hostess, waitress, bartender and assistant manager before being named the restaurant’s general manager in October.
