UPDATE: Niskayuna man accused of killing estranged wife in Lake Luzerne
LAKE LUZERNE A Niskayuna man has been accused of killing his estranged wife with a knife.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Department says 46-year-old Clifford Burns of 2801 Troy-Schenectady Road, Niskayuna, was arrested after a brief car chase soon after 42-year-old Patricia Burns was attacked in her Lake Luzerne home at about 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Deputies say she died from multiple stab wounds and her 22-year-old daughter, Megan Jenkins, suffered injuries to her arms when she tried to help her mother. Jenkins was admitted to Glens Falls Hospital but her wounds aren’t life-threatening, police said.
Police said a vehicle matching the description of Burns’ car was observed on state Route 9 in Lake George a short time after the stabbing. A brief pursuit ended in the parking lot of the Warren County Sheriff’s Deparment said, police said.
Burns was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge. He’s being held without bail and investigators say additional charges are expected. Court officials weren’t available Wednesday to say if he has a lawyer.
Lake Luzerne is 45 miles north of Albany.
The Sheriff’s Department is being assisted in the investigation by the New York State Police.
