— Delmar native Dan McCarroll has been named president of Warner Brothers Records, effective Jan. 1.

A former drummer on the Capital Region music scene, McCarroll had been serving as president of Capitol Records since 2010.

“I am thrilled to join Warner Brothers, whose creative culture has long been a model for our industry,” said McCarroll on AllAccess.com, a radio and music industry Internet site. “The company has a fantastic team, and it’s an honor to join with everyone to build on the label’s iconic legacy.”

Cameron Strang, chairman and CEO of the Burbank, Calif.-based company, said McCarroll has been a well-respected figure in the music industry for years.

“It gives me great pleasure to welcome Dan to Warner Brothers Records,” said Strang. “Dan brings a rare combination of talent and experience to our company. An accomplished musician, publishing executive, A&R man, and label head, Dan has a deep understanding of artists and record-making. He is a perfect fit for our music-driven mission at Warner Brothers.”

McCarroll, who played drums with Capital Region groups like the Kingpins, the Todd Nelson Band and Doc Scanlon’s Rhythm Boys, worked for nine years at EMI Music Publishing before taking over Capitol Records. At EMI, he signed and worked with a series of successful artists and songwriters, including John Mellencamp, Cobra Starship, Travie McCoy, Toby Gad, Steve McEwan, David Hodges, Alter Bridge, Death Cab For Cutie and Panic At The Disco.

McCarroll was also a successful session drummer in the Los Angeles area, working with such stars as Sheryl Crow.

“I thank Cameron for this truly exciting opportunity,” said McCarroll. “I can’t wait to get to work with everyone and make some great music.”
