Albany man charged in connection with donation jar theft
GUILDERLAND Police have made an arrest in the case of a donation jar theft in March at Crossgates Mall.
Guilderland police said in a news release that Tyler Purvis-Mitchell, 19, of 2 Sard St., Albany, has been charged with one count of petty larceny in connection with the theft. They didn’t have to go far to track him down, either, as he was being held at the Albany County Correctional Facility on unrelated charges.
The Albany man was allegedly spotted on video surveillance with two other unknown suspects entering Hannoush Jewelers in the mall on March 25. One of the three suspects took the jar and then they left the store together, police said. An employee called police to report the theft.
Police called the investigation lengthy, and said that once Purvis-Mitchell was identified in the video a warrant went out for his arrest.
He has been arraigned at Guilderland Town Court. Bail was set at $2,500 and he was turned back over to the jail.
