ALBANY — U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer says federal funding that fueled the growth of historic train systems credited with boosting tourism is at risk.

The Democrat says he's pushing a proposal that would continue funding for a tax credit for these short rail systems that have turned into tourist destinations in the Adirondack Mountains. He says the tax credit is scheduled to expire.

The announcement came Monday in Saratoga Springs, where Schumer completed his 15th annual trek to visit all of New York's 62 counties. That includes 230 stops in upstate New York and on Long Island this year.

Schumer says the old-time political practice has kept him in touch with the needs and concerns of New Yorkers.
