— Quinnipiac dealt the University at Albany’s women’s basketball team its first defeat of the season on Sunday at SEFCU Arena, 74-53.

Five Bobcats reached double digits, led by Jasmine Martin’s 16 points, and Quinnipiac forced 19 UAlbany turnovers, nearly double the 10 committed by the Bobcats.

The Great Danes (8-1) got a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds from Shereesha Richards. It was her fifth double-double of the season and her eighth straight game with at least 19 points.

The Bobcats (5-5) launched 29 three-pointers, connecting on 10 of them. They shot 40.4 percent from the field, while UAlbany was held to just 32.7 percent on 17-for-52 shooting.

A pair of free throws from Richards and a three-pointer from Erin Coughlin pulled the Great Danes within eight points with 9:56 left in the second half at 51-43, but Camryn Warner’s layup ended a Quinnipiac scoring drought that had lasted three minutes.

UAlbany came back with buckets from Sarah Royals and Coughlin to pull within six at 53-47, but the Bobcats finished the game on a 21-6 run to deny the Great Danes.

UAlbany got 15 points from Royals and 11 from Coughlin. Richards was the only player with more than four rebounds for the Great Danes. She was 6-for-8 at the free-throw line, and Royals was 5-for-5 at the stripe.

Quinnipiac got 13 points from Gillian Abshire, Warner had 12, Nikoline Ostergaard scored 11 points, and Samantha Guastella finished with 10. Brittany McQuain grabbed nine rebounds, and Guastella booked eight boards.

UAlbany will play Thursday in Durham, N.C., against Duke, ranked No. 2 in the country.
