HALFMOON — State police said an elderly Waterford man was killed when he drove into the path of oncoming traffic on Route 146 late Thursday morning.

Paul Bouchard, 83, was pulling out of the Stewart’s Shops parking lot at 10:54 a.m. when his vehicle was struck. Bouchard was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger in his vehicle was taken to the Albany Medical Center Hospital for evaluation.

Investigators said the other driver, Brian Stevens, 34, of Valley Falls, was treated at the scene and released.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing, but alcohol does not appear to be a factor, according to police.
