Skating rink at Empire State Plaza launches season
ALBANY — The state Office of General Services is holding a grand opening at the Empire State Plaza ice-skating rink across from the Capitol.
The official launch Friday morning coincides with the first Hannaford Free Skate Rental Friday of the season. The supermarket chain is hosting free skate rentals every Friday this winter. Skating is always free.
The rink will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., except for Christmas Day when it's closed. There are lockers and skate rental on the plaza level adjacent to the rink. Friday evenings will feature live music and other entertainment.
The rink was closed for several years and was reopened under Gov. Andrew Cuomo in December 2011.
