— Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason Player of the Year Billy Baron had 21 points and 13 assists, and Canisius made 15 of 26 three-pointers Sunday as the Griffins defeated the Siena men’s basketball team, 93-78.

The Saints trailed by as many as 28 early in the second half before rallying to within 10 with 4:51 to play.

“I was disappointed with how we started and finished,” Siena coach Jimmy Patsos said. “The first four minutes of the two halves and the last four minutes are probably the most important 12 minutes of the game. We didn’t execute, and I take responsibility for that.”

Siena got a career-high 17 points and nine rebounds from sophomore Brett Bisping, but it wasn’t enough to offset hot-shooting Canisius.

The Griffs made 10 of 15 three-pointers in the first half and took a commanding 57-36 lead to the lockerroom.

Dominique Raney (19) and Zach Lewis (18) each registered career-highs for Canisius, which improved to 2-0 in the MAAC.

Siena (3-8, 1-1 MAAC) got a career-high 14 points from freshman Michael Wolfe off the bench and 10 from classmate Maurice White. Leading scorer Rob Poole attempted just six shots, finishing with nine points.

Siena now has a 14-day break for final exams before returning home to face Hofstra Dec. 23.

“I’m the eternal optimist,” Patsos said. “We’re climbing the mountain.
