— Store patrons restrained a fleeing robber Sunday afternoon after he forcibly emptied the cash register at a Stewart’s Shop in Rexford, police say.

Around 2:30 p.m., Grover Dake, 31, of Corinth entered the 923 Riverview Road Stewart’s Shop and demanded money. When one of the employees tried to stop him, he allegedly pushed the employee out of the way and emptied the register. According to information released later Sunday by state police, Dake ran into trouble when he left the shop.

Patrons at the store managed to restrain him in the parking lot until officers arrived and placed him under arrest. At the time of the arrest he allegedly was found to be in possession of Suboxone, a controlled substance used in the treatment of chemical dependency.

He faces charges of third-degree robbery and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Dake was arraigned in Clifton Park Town Court and sent to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. He is set to return to court Dec. 11.

If someone named Golub held up a Price Chopper store, my first question as a reporter would be: "Is he related to the owners?" When a guy named Dake tries to hold up a Stewarts, we need to know if he's related to the family that owns the chain. If he isn't, so be it. We still need to know. And if he is, then you missed the real story.
