FONDA — A St. Johnsville man is facing drug charges after state troopers said they recognized his vehicle as one suspected in several area gas larcenies.

State police say troopers stopped 29-year-old Bernard W. Wrobel, Jr. on Route 5 in the town of Palatine on Wednesday for driving a vehicle with no front plate. The trooper who pulled him over had recognized the vehicle from a number of gas larcenies across Montgomery County.

During the stop, the trooper smelled marijuana and located a pipe with burnt marijuana and two hypodermic needles, according to state police.

Wrobel was arrested and taken to state police barracks in Fonda, where troopers said he admitted to stealing gas from the Stewart’s Shop in St. Johnsville. Police say he also admitted to stealing property from the Met Life building in Herkimer County. State police in Marcy are investigating that incident.

Wrobel was ticketed on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of a hypodermic instrument and released to appear in Palatine Town Court at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19.
