Police: Heroin found during questioning
PALATINE BRIDGE — A Canajoharie man faces heroin possession charges after police stopped him because he matched a suspect description for an unrelated crime.
State police responded to a report Monday of a stolen Nintendo DS from the Rent-a-Center in Palatine Plaza. Store employees provided a suspect description to police, who began patrolling the area and noticed two men who fi t the description at the intersection of routes 10 and 5.
While speaking with the men, a trooper noticed a pill bottle sticking out of one of their jacket pockets. The man with the bottle — Michael A. Shostek, 29 — said there was a needle in it.
He and the other man didn’t turn out to be the Nintendo thieves, but troopers did transport Shostek to their Fonda barracks and discovered several glassine envelopes containing heroin in the pill bottle.
Shostek was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic instrument. He was released on a ticket to appear in Palatine Town Court at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12.
