Gibson chief of staff backed for Assembly
Saratoga Springs native Steve Stallmer was endorsed for the 113th Assembly District seat by the Saratoga and Washington county Republican committees Saturday.
Stallmer, the son of a retired teacher and a mailman, graduated from Saratoga Springs High School and earned a full academic scholarship to Marymount University in Virginia. He currently serves as chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson and lives in Saratoga with his two children.
“I’m truly honored to receive this endorsement and am grateful for all the support I’ve received from my friends, family and neighbors in Saratoga and Washington counties,” he said in a news release Saturday. “It’s been a privilege to represent them at the federal level, and I look forward to being their tireless advocate in Albany.”
He began a career in public service with U.S. Rep. Gerald Solomon. While on Capitol Hill, Stallmer worked on domestic policy issues and later joined the Associated General Contractors of New York.
Stallmer had met and interviewed with town committees in both counties before his endorsement and outlined his priorities for the region. He spoke of the region’s challenges and opportunities, like the GlobalFoundries expansion in Malta, a possible casino in Saratoga and General Electric’s decision to close its Fort Edward plant. He pledged to support a full repeal of the NY SAFE Act, and outlined a plan for the region that included tax relief.
