— Saratoga Springs police are advising drivers to avoid the area around the Saratoga Race Course until after 9 p.m. because of the large crowd at the track for the Travers Stakes.

"There is a very large crowd and we are expecting heavy traffic congestion and traffic delays once the Travers race goes off," Lt. John Catone said in a late afternoon news release. "We anticipate the traffic problems up until 9 p.m. based on prior experience. We are asking that there be no unnecessary travel in the area of the race rack until after 9 p.m. We are also asking that drivers be aware of heavy pedestrian traffic in the area of the Racetrack, so please travel slow and with caution."

Post time for the Travers is 5:46 p.m., with the final race on the 14-race card scheduled for 6:50 p.m.
