Man accused in string of burglaries in Clifton Park
CLIFTON PARK A Ballston Lake man accused in a string of burglaries in the Country Knolls North development may have been robbing homes in Colonie as well, according to state police.
Alexander Connell, 27, of 23 Village View Bluff, was arrested Saturday on 15 counts of burglary in the large development that straddles the towns of Malta and Clifton Park.
Police said the burglaries occurred over the past several weeks.
A 911 call placed Saturday afternoon alerted police to a suspicious person and vehicle in the Country Knolls North neighborhood. A license plate number provided by the caller led police to Connell’s home, where he was reportedly found with some stolen property.
Connell was interviewed at the Malta state police barracks, where he reportedly admitted to committing several of the burglaries and to using the proceeds from the sale of the stolen property to buy heroin in Schenectady.
According to police, a small amount of stolen property was recovered.
Police said they believe Connell acted alone.
Connell was arraigned and sent to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 insurance company bail bond.
According to State Police Investigator Thomas Gibney, Colonie police are now working to determine if Connell also committed burglaries in their jurisdiction.
