Greedy businesses, not government, to blame for the mess we’re in Don Cazer’s July 16 letter blaming government for the recession and collapse of the banks has no basis in historical fact. Was it the government that lobbied itself to eliminate longstanding checks and balances like the Glass-Steagall Act, a sensible regulation that had been in place since The Great Depression? Its funny Frank, these two guys agree with you and neither one of them commented at all about the merits of what you said. None other then President Bill Clinton publicly declared "the Glass–Steagall law no longer appropriate. Just as many people say GS had nothing or little to do with the recession. Blaming Government has no basis in fact? Really? It's not deregulation that cause most of our problems, It's Democrats tweaking and meddling in things they know nothing about that cause our headaches. See health care. Without regulations, banks could sell their mortgages, yea to Fanny and Freddie because the Government agreed to cover the poorly secured loans after telling banks they had to make them. Why should capital gains be taxed at a lower rate than wages? Because the risk taken provides investment money for companies. Thats why. You're just throwing out talking points about taxes. You have no idea what corporations are paying. Government and liberals have driven Companies out of this country. They need to survive. They are not in business to provide tax dollars to be wasted by liberals.
