— Joshua McWain, who was accused of killing his mother in Greenfield and burying her body under a shed, admitted in court this morning to second-degree murder.

McWain, 27, of 370 Daniels Road, pleaded guilty to the highest count against him and is expected to get 19 years to life in prison. As a result of the plea deal, a charge of tampering with physical evidence was dropped.

Authorities said McWain admitted to hitting Carol L. Stanford, 59, on Oct. 27 in the head with a floor buffer because he was angry that she told him to do chores at the mobile home they shared. He wrapped her body in a sleeping bag and buried her under their shed.

In the days between the killing and his arrest, he added items to the hole, including a "world's greatest mother" statue, authorities said previously.
