Chapman-led Spartans roar back, foil Scotties

Ballston Spa had rallied to take a 6-5 lead on Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake with 8:30 left to play Friday, but the Spartans responded with four straight goals to claim a 9-6 Suburban Council victory.

Billy Chapman scored his fifth goal of the game to tie it, then Will Clark scored with 3:42 left, Tom Kenneally found the net with 3:13 left and Austin Clark finished the scoring with 2:04 showing on the clock.

Lucas Carter made 14 saves for the Spartans (3-5 Suburban Council, 5-5 overall).

The Scotties (4-3, 5-4) were led by Jake Gargiulo with two goals and two assists. Sam Groves also scored twice, and John Blake made 10 saves.

Shaker’s Aidan Snyder and Andrew Leahey combined to allow just two goals in a 9-2 win over Beth­lehem. Snyder made five saves, and Leahey had two stops.

Liam King, Tim Leahey and Nick Dodd each scored twice for the Blue Bison, King adding an assist.

The Eagles got two goals from Joe Verstandig, and Dan Comber made 21 saves.

Alex Linder and Chris West both had three goals to lead Colonie past Columbia, 11-1. Brian Pfeil added two goals and two assists, and Cam Carter scored twice.

The Blue Devils got a goal from Sean Kelly. Nick Barone made 10 saves.

In a non-league game, Albany Academy beat Voorheesville, 17-1. Nick DeVito scored five goals, and both Anthony Brock and Evan Cavert scored twice, Brock adding an assist.

Nick Jasinski scored for the Blackbirds, and Casey Hennessy made 15 saves.

Girls

Bison win

Madeline Devine scored five goals and assisted on another, and the Shaker girls’ lacrosse team fought off a challenge from Shenendehowa, 10-8, in Suburban Council action.

Julia Lennon added four goals for the Blue Bison.

The Lady Plainsmen got three goals and an assist from Kelly Wall, while Kristen Connors scored twice.

Kelly Schlansker scored five goals, and Bri Sacks had four goals and an assist as Niskayuna beat Saratoga Springs, 13-8. Asa Goldstock made 11 saves for the Silver Warriors (7-3), and both Cat Sexton and Anna Picardi scored twice, Picardi adding an assist.

Saratoga Springs (4-7) got three goals from Amanda Flemming and two from Molly Kern.

Guilderland beat Averill Park, 15-3, led by Morgan Hardt with three goals and an assist. Shannon Mackesey, Cara Quimby, Rebecca Golderman, Jackie Ragers and Michaela Jones each had two goals for the Lady Dutch (9-0, 9-1), with Mackesey handing out two assists, Jones one.

Averill Park (1-8, 3-8) got a goal and an assist from Sofi Sorreinto. Jackie St. Pierre made 17 saves.

In non-league action, Schuylerville got six goals and an assist from Megan Young to beat Schenectady, 14-11. Carly Marcellas added three goals in the win.

The Patriots got four goals from Marjorie Drohan, while Kaylie DelGiacco added three goals and an assist. Isabella Laugen made 16 saves.
