Saints top Duanesburg on Winters’ no-hitter

Jesse Winters faced two batters over the minimum in a no-hit performance, and Liam Gibney knocked in four runs as Saratoga Catholic defeated Duanesburg, 13-0, in a Western Athletic Conference game Friday night pitting division title contenders.

Winters struck out 15 and issued a pair of third-inning walks in Section II’s third no-hitter this week, and the third in as many years for the Saints (7-0, 7-1).

Gibney went 3-for-3 with a double, Jake Moline had two singles and two RBI for the Saints, and Winters had two singles and four runs scored. The Eagles dipped to 6-3 in the league (6-5 overall).

Tyler Guido pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts and gave up one earned run, and Ohieno Miller belted a two-run double as Mekeel Christian Academy beat Mayfield, 6-2, in the WAC.

Courtney Penson had two singles and an RBI for Mekeel (6-3, 7-3), and Scott Voelker had two singles and scored twice. Mayfield’s Bobby Gates had an RBI double and fanned seven.

Rob Henry hit a one-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Schoharie (4-3, 4-4) a 4-3 win over St. Johnsville.

Rich Martino and Tanner Stone singled, and Evan Ottman drew an intentional walk before Henry’s key hit. Peyton Johnson had a two-run single for the Saints.

Maclin Norray and Trevor Haack homered as part of Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s 20-hit effort, and the Bulldogs (3-4, 3-5) rolled past Sharon Springs, 29-3.

Norray went 3-for-4 with five RBI and four runs scored, and Haack went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Grant Touhey had two doubles among his three hits and drove in four runs to lift Ballston Spa over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, 9-7, in a Suburban Council game at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

Joe Canty went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Scotties (3-4, 4-5), Dan Crozier had a double and an RBI, and Nick Van Liew struck out the side in the last inning to pick up a save for Luke Bush.

Tom Moore and Ryan Foti doubled for the Spartans, and Josh Quesada went 2-for-3.

Shenendehowa scored seven runs in the second inning and beat Shaker, 13-4, in another game at Bruno Stadium. Brennan McCormark went 3-for-3 with a double, and Justin Yurchak and Nick Giunta both had three RBI for the Plainsmen.

Joe Wignot drove in six runs with a grand slam and a double, Chris Amorosi knocked in four with a homer and double, and Schalmont (5-3, 8-3) eased past Cohoes, 21-6, in the Colonial Council.

Jimmy Hamilton had a double, two singles and three RBI for the Sabres. A.J. Cioffe hit a two-run homer for Cohoes.

Sean Dempsey went 4-for-4 with a double, Nolan Woods went 3-for-3, and Albany Academy (5-3, 6-4) scored in each inning in a 19-5 Colonial Council triumph at Mechanicville.

Ian Bennett had three of the Cadets’ 19 hits, and Eric Woods had two including a double. Zach Perras and Alec Hall-St. Gelais doubled for the Red Raiders.

Brandon Bombard and Craig Craven joined on a two-hitter, and Brandon Begin had three hits and two RBI as Lansingburgh (6-1, 6-6) roughed up Watervliet, 17-1. Adam Burke also had three hits for the Knights.

Carter Ducatte backed Tim Hughes’ two-hit pitching with a two-run single as Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk (4-3, 5-4) defeated Fonda-Fultonville, 4-1. Cody Hart had a double for the Braves.

Brandon McKey had two hits and three RBI, and Anthony Barnes had three hits and an RBI as Ichabod Crane (4-3, 4-8) logged a 9-5 Col-onial Council win over Cobleskill-Richmondville.

Javar Tillman hit an RBI triple and a tie-breaking dacrifice fly in the sixth as Schenectady clipped Albany, 3-2, in the Big 10. Jeff Gritsavage hit a two-run single for the Falcons.

Chris Carmel had a double and single, and LaSalle scored eight runs in its first two at-bats in a 10-1 Big 10 victory at Catholic Central. Luke Whelan had two singles for the Crusaders.

Austin Duffney spun a four-hitter, struck out eight and went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lift Waterford-Halfmoon (3-3, 5-6) past Heatly, 9-1, in the Central Hudson Valley League.

Nolan Gray recorded his first varsity win, giving up three hits in six shutout innings, to help Averill Park down Gloversville, 7-2, in a non-league game.

Chris Arnold had two doubles and a single, and Ben Reinisch had two singles and two RBI for the Warriors (3-8). Sam Beaulac also had two hits.

Guilderland senior Ethan Bartlett limited state-ranked Fox Lane to one run through seven innings before the Foxes broke through in the eighth for a 2-1 win at the Clarkstown South Tournament.

Matt Oniffrey had an RBI single in the Fox Lake (7-2) eighth and the notched win in relief. Jacob Sturn scored on a fifth-inning wild pitch for Guilderland (3-6) to tie the game at one.
