High school baseball: King, Miller lift Mekeel

Shawn King pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts, and Ohieno Miller delivered the key blow as Mekeel Christian Academy beat Middleburgh, 5-1, in a Western Athletic Conference game.

Miller smacked a two-run double in the second inning and the Lions (4-3, 5-3) added three in the third. King had an RBI single in that frame.

Fort Plain scored 10 runs in the sixth inning to beat Galway, 18-10, and stretch its WAC record to 8-0.

Chris Hanifin got the win in relief and had a double, three singles and an RBI, and Joe Ray added two singles and an RBI for the Hilltoppers. Evan Ceroalo had a double, three singles and two RBI for Galway, and Taylor Hartman had two singles and an RBI.

Zack Bowerman scattered five hits and fanned nine, and Kyle McLaughlin had a double and single in Canajoharie’s 11-2 WAC win over St. Johnsville.

Buck Anderson had a double for the Cougars. Devan Battisti had a double and single for the Saints.

A.J. Maney and Kevin Smith joined on a no-hitter, with Maney working the first six inning, in Col­umbia’s 2-0 Suburban Council win over Colonie.

Will Gorman hit a solo homer for the Blue Devils (7-1, 8-2).

Freshman Matt Pierce struck out eight and gave up two earned runs in six innings for his first Suburban Council win and second victory this season as Guilderland topped Averill Park, 10-5.

Zach Formica paced the Dutchmen offense with a three-run homer and an RBI single, while Lewis Lima had three hits and Tim Coppinger added two hits. Max Tess­itore had two hits and two RBI for the Warriors.

Jonathan Peatfield had two hits, knocked in five runs and scored a pair in Bethlehem’s 15-1 win over Mohonasen.

Eric Mueller had a double, single and two RBI for the Eagles (6-2, 8-2), and Sam Flood went 3-for-3 for Mohonasen.

Kris Miller clubbed a grand slam, and Alex Chandler had a triple, two singles and three RBI in Saratoga Springs’ 11-7 triumph over Nisk­ayuna.

Tommy Carrigan had a double and single for Niskayuna, and Mike Landry had two singles.

Cody Gaines had a double, single and three runs scored as Hoosick Falls (5-1, 7-1) beat Schuylerville, 11-4, for coach Mike Lilac’s 300th victory.

Duanesburg coach Chris Wyanski notched his 300th win Wednesday, and Glens Falls coach Dave Casey reached the same milestone earlier in the season.

Brandon Hodges had an RBI single in Hoosick Falls’ comeback from a 3-0 deficit. Matt Saddlemire had three singles and an RBI for the Black Horses.

John Stewart hit an RBI single in the sixth, and John Barnes made it stand up as Greenwich (6-1, 10-1) clipped Tamarac, 1-0.

Barnes gave up three hits, including a pair of infield singles, and struck out nine to boost his personal mark to 4-1. Stewart’s single was the only hit off Tamarac’s Connor Johnson, who fanned 11.

Zach Childs went 3-for-4 with an RBI and hurled a three-hitter with nine strikeouts to key Voorheesville’s 6-1 Colonial Council win at Mechanicville.

Mike Young had a double, single and two RBI for the Blackbirds, and Nico Church stole four bases.

Dan Crozier had two doubles and four RBI, freshman Zach Durfee went 3-for-3 with three RBI, and Alex Hartman was a first-time varsity winner as Ballston Spa knocked off Scotia-Glenville, 13-5, in a non-league game.

Dan Zeglen, Chris Borden and Marty McCollum doubled for the Tartans.

Tim Gordon had a double and three RBI, and Phil Hemstreet had a triple and two RBI in Broadalbin-Perth’s 19-7 win over Mayfield. Matt Messina had four hits for Mayfield.
