Man planned to set girlfriend's Malta home on fire: police
MILTON A Milton man was arrested today on attempted arson and burglary charges after police said he poured kerosene in his girlfriend's mobile home in an attempt to set it on fire and then trashed a lighter display at a convenience store.
William H. Thompson, 30, of 331 Rowland St. poured the flammable liquid throughout the inside and outside of her home in Malta, ripped the toilet out of the bathroom and threw her belongings around, including a flat-screen TV that he broke, state police said.
Thompson left without setting a fire and then went to the Cumberland Farms on Geyser Road in Milton, where he is accused of destroying a lighter display and a glass door and jumping over the counter and threatening the clerk.
Ballston Spa police arrested Thompson and turned him over to state police, who charged him with third-degree attempted arson, third-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, and menacing.
He was arraigned in the Town of Malta Court and sent to Saratoga County Jail without bail. Police said they may file other charges against him.
