Wrong-way drive in Saratoga Springs leads to DWI arrest
SARATOGA SPRINGS A Ballston Spa man racked up a slew of charges after police say he drove drunk the wrong way on Caroline Street early this morning.
Pedestrians on the bar-lined street were forced to move quickly to avoid being hit by Ralph A. Bonilla, police said. The 25-year-old allegedly drove his vehicle up the one-way street toward Broadway around 3:45 a.m., but was quickly stopped by police.
Officers say he appeared to be highly intoxicated, but Bonilla refused a field screening test and a pre-screening breath test. He was put in the police lockup pending arraignment in City Court.
Bonilla, of Meadow Lark Drive, was charged with misdemeanor counts of reckless driving, driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more and aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.18 percent or more, as well as two violations for driving up a one-way street and refusing a pre-screening test.
