Shen lacrosse coach resigns amid abuse allegations
CLIFTON PARK Shenendehowa boys' varsity lacrosse coach Charles Holohan submitted his resignation today as the school district was wrapping up its investigation into allegations of verbal abuse against his players.
According to a statement issued by the school district, Holohan's resignation was effective immediately and assistant coach Jason Gifford will run the program for the remainder of the season.
Athletic director Chris Culnan said Thursday that the investigation concerned comments made to players during practice, but offered no other details. He had expected the investigation to be completed no later than this weekend.
"Whether in the classroom, hallways, athletic fields/stands or performance venues, the district endeavors to cultivate and foster an environment that is based on dignity, respect, and civility by and among students, staff and the community," read Friday's statement from the district. "This is not only critically important for the safety and welfare of all involved, it is also to ensure that the quality of the experience for our students takes precedent."
The Plainsmen are 1-1 on the season, having beaten Saratoga Springs, 17-7, on Thursday.
The statement said district officials would have no further comment on the investigation or Holohan's resignation.
