Family accused of stealing building materials
Suppplies were meant for a new church building
GLOVERSVILLE Police allege that a father and two sons were caught loading up a truck with construction materials meant for a new church building.
John D. Mickels, 55, of Sprakers, Joshua D. Mickels, 32, of Fort Plain, and Jonathan D. Mickels, 28, of Middleburgh, were loading up a full-size pickup truck with rebar — steel bars used to support concrete — when police arrived at the site on Tuesday, according to a release from the Gloversville Police Department.
Police in the release allege that their investigation revealed that Tuesday was the trio's fourth trip to 1 Foothills Drive, the construction site for a new Foothills United Methodist Church building.
Gloversville Police Capt. John P. Sira said police are in the process of determining a value for the materials the Mickelses are accused of taking.
All three were charged with petty larceny and third-degree criminal trespass. They were arraigned in Gloversville City Court and sent to the Fulton County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail.
