SAND LAKE -- Authorities say two men have had a close call after they broke through the ice while fishing on a lake.
Emergency officials in Rensselaer County tell local media outlets that two men in their 60s were fishing Sunday morning on Crooked Lake in the town of Sand Lake, 10 miles east of Albany.
Officials say one of the men broke through the ice and his friend did the same when he tried to come to the rescue. Fire officials say the second man managed to reach shore, where he got a boat that he used to rescue his friend.
By the time emergency crews arrived, both men were safe. One of the men was taken to a hospital in Troy to be checked out for mild hypothermia.
