Field hockey: Hanks strikes again
Carrie Hanks just has the Spartans’ number.
For the second time this season, Hanks scored an overtime goal to lift Niskayuna past Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, both times by a 3-2 score. The first time was Sept. 5, when she scored with 3:27 left in the first overtime.
This time was a little more dramatic, her goal coming with 2:58 left in the second overtime period.
It was the second goal of the game for Hanks, assisted by Ali Frary on a corner. Ali Wells had the other goal for the Silver Warriors (7-0 Suburban Council, 8-0 overall), hers assisted by Anna Torri. Emily King made two saves in the win.
The Spartans (5-3) got two goals from Amy LeBel, both assisted by Aubrey Kamppila. Brittany Ryan kept Burnt Hills in it with 14 saves.
Christie Raymond scored a second-half goal, assisted by Samantha Ballard, to lift Queensbury past Scotia-Glenville in the Foothills Council, 1-0.
Christina Galatioto made three saves for the shutout as the Spartans improved to 5-1 in the league and 6-1 overall.
The Tartans (1-6) got four saves from Vanessa Walker.
In the Patroon Conference, Emma Willard beat Germantown, 6-0, to improve to 5-0 in the league and 6-2 overall.
Goalie Zoe McGuire made six saves for her fifth shutout of the season, and she got goal support from Olivia Gundrum (four scores), Francesca Gundrum (goal, two assists) and Nana Ito (goal).
Myckayla Embree made nine saves for Germantown (0-4, 1-5).
Ashley Dona scored three times for Johnstown in a 5-1 non-league win over Warrensburg.
Hope Cerasuolo and Alexis Swatt also scored for the Lady Bills (7-1), and Kelsi Barnholt had two assists.
Warrensburg (5-5) got its goal from Braydin Smith.
