College: Altes’ contacts worth the money

The former head of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce has had his consultant role for Schenectady County Community College renewed. The SCCC Board of Trustees last week approved a contract with Wally Altes running through Aug. 31, 2013, at a total cost not to exceed $30,000. How deeply disturbing that Mr. Gillen thinks that $30,000 is a mere "pittance." That pittance would have gone a long way to fund a "very well-respected, highly thought of" drama program, or to fund some much needed databases or computers for SCCC's students. With such a remark, Mr. Gillen appears to be positioning himself as Schenectady's very own Mitt Romney.
