Sabres’ Willis tallies five TDs
ROTTERDAM Devon Willis matched his career high with five touchdowns, and Schalmont took sole possession of first place in the Class B West Division with a 51-7 win over Broadalbin-Perth Saturday night.
Willis scored all of his touchdowns on the ground, including a 66-yard dash that capped a 38-point first half for the three-time defending Section II champions.
Chas Higgins added three touchdowns for Schalmont (3-0, 3-1), and the Sabres stymied a Broadalbin-Perth team that had outscored Stillwater, Johnstown and Hudson Falls by a 130-28 margin.
The Patriots (2-1, 3-1) got their only points on a second-quarter fumble return by Pierre LaPort.
Schalmont came in with a No. 8 state ranking, and has won 31 straight games against Section II Class B competition.

ALBANY — Mike Graves and Jason Class rushed for two touchdowns apiece, and Bethlehem (2-2, 2-2) continued its playoff quest with an Empire Division win over the Falcons (0-4, 0-4).
Graves ran 15 times for 119 yards, and the Eagles’ defense forced five turnovers, including an end zone interception by Mike Anziano.
Dysheek Sanders hauled in a fourth-quarter touchdown pass as Albany avoided the shutout.

Watervliet got touchdowns from six different players in a successful bounce back after last week’s 6-0 loss to Fonda-Fultonville. Frank Capone was among the TD makers and had one of Watervliet’s three interceptions. Gleason and Jake Lindsay had the others.

Marisa Larkin scored on a scramble with no time left in the second half as Saratoga Springs clipped Columbia, 1-0, in a Suburban Council game.
Saratoga (4-2, 5-2) was awarded a penalty corner in the final seconds and cashed in to snap its two-game league slide. Sam Petruzzo assisted on the goal, and Sam Geils made one save for the shutout. Nikki Kirby made 10 saves for Columbia (1-4, 3-4).
Girls’ volleyball
meachem nets 400th win
Schalmont coach Kevin Meachem reached 400 career victories when the Sabres defeated Beekmantown to capture the Silver Division title, 25-22, 25-22, at the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Cider Challenge Tournament.
Schalmont (9-2) beat Minisink Valley in the semifinals, 25-17, 26-24, before topping Beekmantown behind Rachel Pineda’s 12 kills and six aces, Lauren Mahar’s 11 kills, and Lauren Chrysler’s nine aces and 12 digs. Beekmantown won a three-set semifinal against Queensbury.
Meachem ranks seventh all-time among Section II coaches for wins, and its fifth among active coaches.
Galway defeated Mayfield for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament title, 25-23, 25-19, after sweeping Schoharie in the semifinals, 25-18, 25-16.

MOHONASEN WINS
Mike Korzun scored two goals, and Attilio Tebano had a goal and assist as Mohonasen beat Ballston Spa, 3-0, in a Suburban Council boys’ game.
The Mighty Warriors are 2-4-1.
Uyi Omorogbe scored a goal and set up a Sam Smith goal as Colonie beat Saratoga Springs for its second straight win. Terrence Maydick had the goal for the Blue Streaks.
Kledis Capolarri and Connor Rubin scored for Guilderland, and Mike Sposito and Ryan Casserly had the Shaker goals as the Dutchmen and Blue Bison played to a 2-2 SC draw.
Owen Nuss scored in the first overtime to give Averill Park a 3-2 win over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. The goal was the second of the game for Nuss.
Tim Hughes had gotten the Spartans into a 2-2 tie with a goal six minutes from the end of regulation.
Country Moran scored three goals, and both Eric Denny and Michael Fraioli added one as unbeaten Scotia-Glenville topped Johnstown, 5-1, in the Foothillls Council.
Dennis Turner picked up two assists for the Tartans, 5-0-0 in the league and 9-0-0 overall. Brandon Spaid had the goal for the Sir Bills.
Taylor Neil scored two goals and Preston Hendrick also scored, leading Queensbury past Glens Falls, 3-1. Logan Kunst had the Glens Falls goal.
Justin O’Brien scored early in the game, and Edwin Alfena added a goal early in the second half as Catholic Central edged Loudonville Christian School, 2-1, in a non-league game. Blake Rock scored for the Eagles.
Graeme Corrigan put home a rebound with seven seconds left as Troy got past South Glens Falls, 2-1, in another non-league test.
Alex Potter’s second-half goal tied the game for South High. Rafik Mekhaldi was denied by Bulldogs’ netminder Josh Hay (nine saves) before Corrigan connected.
Chris Bubb and Gino Rossi split the scoring with two goals and two assists each as Schalmont beat Cohoes, 4-0, Friday in the Colonial Council.
Ellery Bianco had a goal and assist, and Megan Nash had the other goal as Saratoga Springs got past Colonie, 2-1, in a Suburban girls’ game.
Unbeaten Schalmont rolled past Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, 8-0, in the Colonial Council, behind four goals from Diana DiCocco.
Rachael Gac added two goals for the 7-0-0 Lady Sabres, with Allie Gallo and Bianca Mascitelli both getting a goal.
Lauren Drake had a goal and assist, and four other players had a goal as Catholic Central defeated Schenectady, 5-1, in the Big 10. Shanley Rodriguez had the goal for the Lady Patriots.
Grace Dulery and Allie Martin both scored three goals as Hoosick Falls blew past Cambridge, 9-2, in the Wasaren League. Jordan Haynes added two goals and an assist, and Alice Hayden contributed a goal and two assists.
Morgan Daignault scored in the first half assisted by Sarah Green, and Alexis VanArsdale made nine saves, to lift Sharon Springs to a 1-0 non-league win over Jefferson. Sharon Springs prevailed for the first time in eight games.
Gabrielle Guzman had all three goals as Albany Academy beat Mechanicville, 3-1, Friday in the Colonial Council.
Cross country
queensbury invitational
Section II girls took the individual and team championships at the Queensbury Adirondack Invitational, with Taylor Driscoll of Saratoga Springs running the top five-kilometer time of 17:37.70.
Olivia Morrow (18:40.70) and Keelin Hollowood (18:51.01) ran fourth and fifth for Saratoga as the nationally ranked Blue Streaks claimed the Division 1 team crown. Colonie ninth-grader Bellame Bower was sixth (18:54.36).
Courtney Tedeschi of Berne-Knox-Westerlo won the Division 2 race in 18:44.32, freshmen Tori Spiezio (19:18.91) of Greenwich and Jamie Kasza (19:29.52) of Fonda-Fultonville took the next spots, and Kelly Pasko-led Maple Hill beat out Schuylerville for team honors.
Hanson Sibby (15:42.21) of team champion Arlington won the boys’ Division 1 race ahead of Columbia’s Kyle Gronostaj (16:01.56) and Fonda-Fultonville’s Matt Hoffman (16:06.16). Jeremy Spiezio (16:26.07) of Greenwich won the Division 2 race, and Barker topped the teams.
The state meet will be held on the Queensbury course in the fall of 2013.
Tom McClellan of Mayfield ran the fastest time (14:50) in winning the boys’ 2.82-mile small-school race, and John Knox of team champion Gloversville edged Albany’s Philo Germano in the large-school race, with both seniors closing in 14:54.
Tanner Flint of team winner Corinth clocked a second-place 15:46 in the small-school division.
Victoria Hathaway of Stillwater won the small-school girls’ race in a meet-best 18:02, and Albany Academy took team honors. Sarah Carter of Cohoes was the large-school winner (18:44), and Amsterdam, with three runners in the top seven, prevailed among the teams.
Joe Girard (16:21.5) finished 10th, Pat McGuinness (16:24.3) ran 13th and Jared Short (16:26.4) was 15th in leading Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake to fourth place in the 2.95-mile large-school race at the Baldwinsville Invitational.
