Volleyball: Knights triumph over Schenectady
In a battle for sole possession of second place in the Big 10, the Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons girls defeated Schenectady, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 25-12.
Caroline Bouchard and Sarah DelVecchio delivered seven kills apiece, and Siobhan Muscanelli and Ejada Montgomery added 14 service points each for the 4-1, 5-2 Golden Knights. Emily Brown chipped in with 27 assists.
The 4-2, 5-2 Patriots were led by Tara Riley’s nine kills, Nicole St. Onge’s 12 service points and Katie Yang’s nine service points.
Allison VanDoren’s nine kills and Quincy Kinzel’s 15 service points and 15 assists lifted Guilderland over Colonie, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 25-13, in a Suburban Council match.
Stephanie Reinheardt’s 10 kills and Tiera Gullen’s eight service points led the Garnet Raiders.
Annie Stock (19 kills, 12 digs), Zara Hyde (30 assists, 29 service points, nine digs), Bri O’Rourke (four kills, seven blocks) and Alyssa Nellis (six kills, five blocks) sparked Johnstown over Gloversville, 21-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-21, in a Foothills Council match.
Chelsey Biasini’s eight kills topped 3-3 Gloversville.
In a non-league match, Averill Park defeated Catholic Central, 25-11, 25-14, 25-15, to improve to 4-5 overall.
Sam Pelton, Devin Sandman and Dan Symer combined for 22 kills, and Sandman also contributed 24 assists as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake topped Guilderland, 25-16, 25-16, 25-20, in a Suburban Council boys’ match.
Jim Merrill’s 10 kills lifted Columbia over Saratoga Springs, 25-23, 25-17, 16-25, 26-24.
The Blue Devils improved to 2-6. Saratoga dropped to 0-8.
Behind Austin Jensen’s nine kills and Tyler Ostrowski’s 21 assists, Shenendehowa blanked Colonie, 25-8, 25-16, 25-18.
Niskayuna outlasted Mohonasen, 25-15, 16-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20, as Jordan Whittemore and Josh Miller recorded 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
Whittemore also contributed five blocks, and Zach Greene added six kills and four blocks for the 3-5 Silver Warriors.
Bethlehem remained unbeaten (8-0) with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-16 victory over Shaker.
Sam Powers produced 11 aces, and John Sica put down 11 kills for the Eagles.
