Middleburgh girls end Galway’s win streak

The Galway girls’ soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, 4-2 in overtime, against Middleburgh Friday, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo had its six-game Western Athletic Conference winning streak interrupted by a tie with Northville.

Middleburgh’s Kendra Wood and Taylor Cater both scored in overtime for the Knights (4-1-0 WAC), who got two goals from Amanda Roney in regulation. Roney also assisted on Wood’s game-winner. Megan Hagadorn made 18 saves to hold back Galway (4-1-0 WAC, 5-1 overall).

The Eagles got 18 saves from Rebekah Reichard, and goals were scored by Abby Spagnola and Erica Chase.

Northville’s Veronica Arceri, assisted by Mary Ryan, scored the equalizer in a 2-2 draw with Berne-Knox-Westerlo. Kelly VanNostrand scored for the Falcons (3-1-2 WAC) in the first half, and Joanna Schulte made 17 saves.

BKW (6-0-1 WAC) got scores from Delaney Martin and Makayla McCormick, while Liz Harvey made eight saves.

Schoharie scored three times in the second half to beat Mayfield, 4-0. Seana Cleveland scored twice for the Indians (3-2 WAC), while Hannah Bowersox and Kaitlyn Kendle both scored once. Lindsey Vanier made six saves in the shutout.

Mayfield (1-5 WAC) got 16 saves from Jennifer Little.

Sophie Constantino scored three times to lead Scotia-Glenville over Troy, 7-1, in a non-league game. Carina Moran made three saves for the 6-0 Tartans. Other goals came from Renee Casey, Grace Marola, Max Culhane and Maddy Carroll.

Troy got 17 saves from Abby McAuley and a goal from Courtney Avery.

Niskayuna’s Anka Parzych scored twice to lift the Silver Warriors to a 2-0 Suburban Council win over Columbia. Liz Farley and Meghan Reihs picked up the assists for Niskayuna (7-0 Suburban), and Kristen Hartlage made two saves.

Jessica Schafer made 15 saves for Columbia (1-6 Suburban).

Mariela Jacome’s goal and assist led Ichabod Crane past Cobleskill-Richmondville in a Colonial Council match, 3-1. Kaci Aschenbrenner and Jessie Mink also scored for the 5-1 Riders, and Katie Grace made eight saves.

Cobleskill (4-2) got a goal from Morgan Loder and nine saves from Erika Tracy.

Catskill’s Logan Hart-Grasse made nine saves to keep Maple Hill at bay in a 3-1 Patroon Conference win. Kassidy Bulich, Kaylyn Hol­liday and Kelly Meyer provided the scoring for the Cats (3-2-1, 3-2-1).

Maple Hill (2-4, 2-4) got a goal from Bella Nelson, while Anna Pulver (three saves) and Sabrina Wolfe (five saves) split time in goal.

Coxsackie-Athens (4-0-1 Patroon) got three goals from Brianna Blunk to beat Taconic Hills, 5-0. Ashley McKay was credited with 28 saves for Taconic Hills (0-6 Patroon).

Heather Carl led Greenville to a 3-0 win over Cairo-Durham with two goals. Carly Johnson had the other, moving Greenville to 4-1-1 in the Patroon. Cairo-Durham dropped to 4-2-0.

Chatham’s Alyssa Keeler and Erin Persons scored in a 2-0 win over Hudson, helping Chatham improve to 5-1 in the Patroon, while Hudson dropped to 0-6 despite 20 saves from Tiffany Meano.

Berlin got a hat trick from Brianna Stowell in a 7-0 Central Hudson Valley League win over Doane Stuart (1-3-0 CHVL). Jewel Pietryk also had a pair of goals for Berlin (3-1-0 CHVL), and Jodi Thomas made seven saves.

Newton leads Academy

Albany Academy remained unbeaten with a 4-1 win over Mechanicville in the Colonial Council, moving to 6-0 in the league. Jordan Newton figured in all four goals, scoring once and handing out three assists. Dami Osofisan scored twice for Academy, while Michael DeVito scored once. Hugh Fisher made six saves in the win.

The Red Raiders (1-3-1 Colonial) got a goal from Eric Krasuski and nine saves from Caleb Foard.

Niskayuna beat Columbia, 3-1, in the Suburban Council, getting goals from Brendan Griffiths, Joe Repicky and Scott Fishel, with Repicky also assisting on two goals. The Silver Warriors improved to 4-1-0 in the league. Tanner Chester scored for the Blue Devils (2-4-1 Suburban).

Galway topped Middleburgh, 4-2, to remain unbeaten at 5-0 in the Western Athletic Conference. Casey Mello, Ryan Paapalau, Zack Hartman and Austin Scheeren scored for the Eagles. Evan Ceroala made eight saves and Rob Baron two as the pair split time in goal.

Austin Roney scored a goal and assisted on Ryan Bechtold’s score for Middleburgh (2-5 WAC).

Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Nick Nagengast scored with 20 minutes left to cut the Bulldogs’ deficit in half, but Northville re-established its two-goal lead with 11 minutes left to play on David Onzo’s goal, beating BKW, 3-1.

Tate Repscher assisted on the goal for BKW (4-3, 5-3). The Falcons (2-2-1 WAC) also got goals from Nate Edwards and Jimmy Grega.

Mayfield’s Tylan Toscano, assisted by Brandon Smith, had the lone goal in a win over Schoharie. Ryan Hennessy made four saves for the Panthers (2-3 WAC), and Justin Montione made six stops for the Indians (3-3-1).

John Lucas scored three goals, two in a second-half surge, as Hoosic Valley topped Cambridge, 5-2, in the Wasaren League. Jared Morello and Evan Holbritter both scored in the win, while Ethan Ross-Hixson made five saves for Hoosic Valley (2-4-0 Wasaren).

Cambridge (0-6-0 Wasaren) got goals from Luke Bateman and Buster Baker-Porazinski.

Greenwich (2-2-1 Wasaren) got two goals and an assist from Hunter Barbolla to beat Granville, 6-0. Josh Moy had a goal and an assist, while Maxwell English, Elliott Hansen and Collin Oswald also scored. Granville dropped to 0-5 in the Wasaren.

Taylor Baker and Max Haar scored for Hoosick Falls in a 2-0 win over Stillwater. Noah Chani made six saves for Hoosick Falls (5-1 Wasaren). Stillwater dropped to 3-3 in the league.

Schuylerville improved to 6-0 in the Wasaren with a 1-0 win over Tamarac (3-3 league). Matt Saddlemire provided the goal, and Luke Pumiglia made three saves in the shutout. Tamarac’s Brady McMurtry made eight saves.

Berlin’s Zach Spaniol and Dylan Hover scored to beat Waterford-Halfmoon, 2-1, in the Central Hudson Valley League, Spaniol adding an assist. Mike Reger made seven saves for Berlin (3-0-1, 3-2-1).

Nick Castle scored for the Fordians (1-2-1, 1-4-1), and Matt Rebel made 12 saves.

Liam Lynch scored twice in Doane Stuart’s 4-2 win over Heatly. Joey Rocchio and Thomas Mathews also scored for Doane Stuart (1-1-1 CHVL), while Nate Miller scored twice for Heatly (0-4 CHVL).

Fort Ann beat Argyle, 4-1, to move into a tie for second place in the Adirondack League behind unbeaten Lake George. Derek Durkee scored twice in the second half for Fort Ann (5-2-0 Adirondack League), and Chris Jackson and Nick Lehoisky both scored once. Jonah Gould made six saves in the win. Colin Brown scored for Argyle (5-2-0 Adirondack).

Bolton (4-3 Adirondack) topped Corinth, 3-1, with goals from Dustin French, William Smith and Kevin Pratt. The Tomahawks (2-5

Adirondack) got a goal from Cassidy White.

Field hockey

NISKAYUNA UNBEATEN

Carrie Hanks and Anna Torri connected for second-half goals as Niskayuna remained unbeaten with a 2-0 Suburban Council victory over Shenendehowa.

Ali Frary picked up an assist, and Emily King stopped five shots for the 5-0, 6-0 Silver Warriors.

For 4-2, 5-2 Shenendehowa, Melissa Nealon registered eight saves.

Four different players scored for Burnt Hills-Ballson Lake in a 4-0 shutout of Guilderland.

Aubrey Kamppila, Nicole Beardsley, Lexi Ball and Christina Krowel scored for the 5-1 Spartans. Brittany Ryan and Shawna Ryan combined to make one save.

For Guilderland, Elizabeth Schumacher stopped 14 shots.

Bethlehem scored all of its goals in the second half to rally past Shaker, 4-2.

Molly Higgins scored two goals for the Eagles (3-3), who trailed, 1-0, at the half. Erin Landy and Marina Skrabalak each added a goal and an assist, and McKenzi Reutz had the other goal.

Laura Downey and Taylor Nunez combined for four saves for the Eagles.

Kelsey O’Neil and Jordan Sheehy scored for the Blue Bison (2-5), Victoria McAuley picked up an assist and Emily Phillips turned aside seven shots.
