— Rotterdam police this morning say that parents of Mohonasen students need not be concerned after a report that a man was approaching children in the area.

The school district sent out a letter to parents on Wednesday saying that a man was approaching children both while driving and on foot at and or around bus stops asking for information such as directions, according to CBS 6, The Daily Gazette’s news gathering partner.

Lt. Jason Murphy of the Rotterdam Police Department said an officer located the vehicle and person in question on Thursday. The man is a local resident and said he had just stopped to speak with the children about a few bikes he saw down the road. The man said he thought the bikes might belong to the children, Murphy said.

There was no attempt of abduction or any other overt threat made, Murphy said. Mohonasen School District officials and the person who lodged the original complaint were advised of the police findings.
