Home Style' Portofino's sets grand opening

COLONIE -- The grand opening of Portofino's Italian Restaurant, at 831 New Loudon Road (Route 9) in Latham, is set for 4 p.m. on Thursday, when a ribbon-cutting will take place.

An open house will follow with hors d'oeuvres and an opportunity to meet the staff.

The restaurant is owned by Home Style Caterers, which had its start as Home Style Pizza 39 years ago on upper Union Street in Schenectady.

Owners Anthony Adonnino and Michael and Louis Bennice said in a news release: "The transformation from great dinners, pizzas and other classic Sicilian dishes to the more large-scale catering and restaurant fine dining was easy for our family. Attention to the customer is an easy cliche for most. We live it."

Justin Engineri, the chef and a part-owner, is a graduate of Johnson & Wales and a 2012 Rising Star Chef finalist.

"We love our location, being part of the resurgence of the Latham business district and really love the people who have eaten at our restaurant so far," Engineri says in the news release. "We are committed to giving an extraordinary dining experience, as well as the best possible menu this area has to offer."

The restaurant will offer live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. A noon brunch will be added soon.
