Volleyball: Braves come back to beat Bulldogs
Taylor Wetsky served 19 aces, and Fonda-Fultonville rallied from two games down to beat Cobleskill-Richmondville and earn its first victory of the season Tuesday in Colonial Council action.
Wetsky had 30 service points and added eight kills and three stuff blocks in the Braves’ 24-26, 19-25, 25-9, 25-12, 25-14 triumph. Cory Lais had nine aces among 15 points to go with six kills for Fonda-Fultonville (1-2, 1-2).
Sierra Park and Amelia Butler both totaled 14 service points for the Bulldogs (1-3, 1-3). Park had five aces and 10 assists, and Alaina Thaxter struck down six kills.
Mariel McGinnis and Nicole Brower joined for 17 kills, and Tori Hargrave served for 10 points with four aces as 2011 state Class C semifinalist Voorheesville (4-0, 4-0) knocked off Schalmont, 25-12, 30-28, 25-18.
Rachel Pineda led the Sabres (3-1, 3-1) with eight kills and 17 digs, and Lauren Chrysler had eight points.
Lansingburgh (2-2, 2-2) rallied late for a 16-25, 25-10, 15-25, 25-15,
25-22 win over Mechanicville, which got five kills apiece from Paige Hansen and Carolyn Corcoran.
Emily Brown amassed 24 assists, and Ejada Montgomery had 18 points, 18 digs and five aces as Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons beat Catholic Central, last year’s Big 10 champion, 25-4, 25-12, 25-27, 23-25, 25-21.
Caroline Bouchard had 23 digs, 12 points, four aces and eight kills for the Golden Knights (2-0, 2-0). Clare Herubin had 14 kills and 18 digs for the Lady Crusaders (1-2, 1-3), and Laura Sodorsky had eight kills.
Tara Riley worked the net for 15 kills, Katie Yang collected 21 assists and 15 points, and Schenectady posted an 18-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-19 Big 10 win over Amsterdam.
Tanaia Medley had 17 points for Schenectady. Jordann Bernandro paced the Rams with seven kills, and Bayley Archinal had four kills and four blocks.
Guilderland beat Mohonasen, 25-12, 25-13, 25-15, and Shenendehowa topped Ballston Spa, 25-14, 25-15, 25-14, setting up a Thursday matchup between unbeaten Suburban Council teams. Shenendehowa defeated Guilderland in last season’s Section II Class AA final.
Quincy Kinzel had 17 points, seven aces and eight assists for Guilderland (4-0, 4-0), and Rebecca Straubel served for six aces and nine points. Morgan Papa had five kills for Mohonasen.
Gabby Agresta had 11 kills, and Kaitlin DeWolf and Brooke Lane combined for 25 points and 21 digs to spark Shenendehowa (3-0, 3-0). Lane added four kills.
Defending state Class A champion Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (4-0, 7-0) beat Niskayuna, 25-18, 25-12, 25-16, behind Molly McCormack’s seven kills and eight digs, and Siena Wilder’s 11 digs.
Defending Suburban Council South Division champion Columbia got 20 assists, six aces and six kills from Lindsey Champito in a 25-10, 25-18, 25-19 win over Averill Park.
Lindsey Forkeutis had nine kills and nine digs for the Blue Devils (2-2,
2-2). Kate Wait and Alex Madsen led Averill Park (2-2, 2-2) with six kills and 12 assists, respectively.
Lauren Graves delivere nine kills, Julia Dyer had five kills, and Stephanie Reinhardt served for three aces and assisted 14 times as Colonie
(2-1, 2-1) outlasted Bethlehem, 25-19, 16-25, 15-25, 25-16, 26-24.
Galway got four aces, 10 points and seven assists from Emily Orminski, Hayley Martin and Rachel Jones both had nine points for the Eagles (2-0, 2-0), and the defending Western Athletic Conference Northern Division champions swept Canajoharie, 25-11, 25-7, 25-18.
Martin had four kills and a trio of aces. Evangeline Wilcox had four blocks for the Cougars (1-1, 1-1), and Shelby Mead added two kills and three blocks.
