— A number of schools in the Capital Region will close early today as Hurricane Sandy approaches.

Some others are closed for the day while others are keeping their regular dismissal times.

Albany City School District schools are closed today.

Among the districts closing early are Niskayuna, Ballston Spa, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Bethlehem, Holy Names, Middleburgh, Fonda-Fultonville, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Jefferson, Gilboa-Conesville, Schoharie, South Colonie, North Colonie and East Greenbush.

Among the districts with regular dismissal times are Schenectady, Schalmont, Shenendehowa, Scotia-Glenville, Saratoga Springs, Guilderland, Gloversville, Sharon Springs, Averill Park, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Mohonasen.

SUNY-Cobleskill and Schenectady County Community College are open. SCCC, however, has cancelled classes that begin after 4:30 today.

As of noon today, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will cancel all classes and close down normal operations, due to expected high winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Sandy.
