Schenectady still spending way more money than it needs to The assertion that Schenectady is in dire fiscal straits reflects a strange use of the term “dire.” The city is still giving away police and fire services to nonprofits. In a world where your sexuality is a private matter, the city still spends money dealing with prostitution. And, of course, the city spends considerable money in its attempt to protect the booze industry by jailing ...

Free stuff - whaaa? nothing is free. insurance premiums are paid, taxes are paid, whether on products, income or gas, that pay for this "free stuff". Most women don't have careers, just jobs to pay the bills. I have some 1950 magazines that define women's roles: Barefoot, pregnant with the sixth child, with curlers in our hair cooking dinner for the breadwinner? If women had equal pay, perhaps they wouldn't have to work twice the hours and would have more time for nuturing! Move into this century.

George W. Putman

Global warming is a fraud, and evolution is not yet proven...... Science says that the earth has heated and cooled throughout history, have you ever heard of the "Ice Age"? As far as the Tea Party goes, what we need is a majority in Congress as it is extremely difficult to get things done when you have the status quo on both sides against you.

Since we will probably never see term limits in the Senate and Congress, we the people need to hold our politicians to our term limits, vote out all Congress after two terms and the Senate after one.

Wmarincic,
I'm not sure who you are but I've read your inaccuracies too often to allow them to continue. First, I would like to clarify that if you had actually stepped foot into a classroom teaching modern science as opposed towhatever archaic curriculum you were being fed pre-genetics, you would be well informed that evolution is NOT a theory, althought theories of evolution do exist in fat according to the National Institute of Science, evolution with modification is the most widely accepted concept in science as a whole, so lets take a step in to modern times with that quick lesson in science. Indeed, theories of evolution do still exist, including Darwin's theory, but they are imperfected and based on ideas, not facts and thus have no standing in science beyond guiding us to more recent discovery. Also, again, take a class on biology specific to environmental science, or get information on global warming from somewhere otherthan short sighted online research catering to people who approach our environment with the sane notion that got us into this mess in the first place "if it doesn't affect me day to day then it can't be real". It bothers me, and it bothers my generation that our elders aren't taking this more seriously. Regardless of whether or not global warming is a concrete fact, it is unmistakable that carbon dioxide, out of control use of fossil fuels and general disregard for our environment is causing severe issues. Birth control horomones are being discovered in municipal water sources, acid rain is killing lakes in our own park system, and our area has seen more devistation in recent years than has ever been recording. Whatever the cause, and whether the theory of global warming as I will call it out of fairness is correct, something is changing, and narrowminded shortsightedness for the sake of being "right" and standing up for the policies of the tea party for the sake of political alignment with conservative mentality. It will ruin us if you refuse to accept new information and refuse to evolve your views.

Don, calm down and stop worrying. Things have been changing since the beginning of time and will be changing until the end of time. Your generation has been hit hard by the brainwashers in the public school system. Make no mistake about it. The "theory" of man-made global warming is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on our citizenry. Stating that evolution is a "fact" is also untrue if you mean to say that life evolved from the primordial soup that was around at the beginning of the earth. Surely some species have their origin in prior species, but the origin of life has not been nor probably never will be proven.

Don the only thing that you said that is true is the water is being poluted. I remember Lake George in 1970 was one of the cleanest lakes in the U.S. at the time, not anymore. Yes we are seeing our food supply filled with drugs and yes there is polution and we are doing things in America to stop it but if you study anything you will know that other developing countries like China and S. America are the big polluters. What does the Tea Party have to do with any of this??? The Tea Party stands for smaller government and fair taxes and opportunities for all,not pollution and the destruction of the world. As far as evolution, I will never believe that is true, as humans who 125 years ago were riding horses and today can clone animals and I would bet humans. How arrogant of you to believe that a higher power whom I choose to call God did not create us and the plants, animals and other living things on Earth.

wmarincic: I was going to address your reply, but it was so PROFOUNDLY arrogant, misinformed, and nonsensical, I could feel the brain cells bleeding out of my ears as I read it.

You are certainly not the one to be talking about brainwashing.

Things are indeed changing, and we are all being given the opportunity to lesson our blow on the ecosystem. Unfortunately, members and oundantz for the tea party have dubbed this shift in focus toward the environment as being some sort of liberally biased conspiracy meant to mislead to public. China has indeed been a large contributing factor to the pollution issue. We ship our garbage there in fact, and a large portion of exports from China are come to the US because of capitalism... a notion the tea party readily supports. We can not regulate what occurs in China... yet the Romneys of the wprld refuse to admit Global Warming is an issue, sent those jobs and production lines overseas, accept pollution as a minrr nuisance, and run on the platform that as long as we all just get taxed less and can spend more, magically evergreen ng gets better. It is a tea psrty and republican specific mentality that anyhing scientific must be inored.
If you expect me to listen to anything you have to say as far as the theory of evolution goes, drop the religion. Its a tired argument. I do believe that some concepts are too deep to ever be explained by science. Obviously a miracle occured that sparked the beginning of life in our universe. If you choose to call it God and your brain capacity is too small to comprehend that whatever created us isn't some guy among the clouds we read about as kids in religion class, then I completely forgive you for your complete lack of rational thought and argument; it must be a learning disability. Even Einstein acknowledged the presence of a God, as have several scientists. And drop the liberal democrat agenda bs. Its just annoying and makes it look like you have nothing to back up your stance... maybe its just Romnesia... or that attitude elders sometimes get when they realize their aftual impact on the world is nil and they refuse to see life improve at the hands of educated individuals who have been able to adapt to the changing times.

Congratulations to the Tea Party for bringing America back to the 19th century when we were governed by the elites and the industrialists. It's incredible that we've returned to the era when people like Mitt Romney ruled the country through their purse strings. Now all they have to do is to get rid of any taxes for the rich and the corporations, rig the Supreme Court, and for the final coup de gras, put their puppet Mitt Romney into office who as Grover Norquist promised, would be a live hand to sign what ever policy he is handed by his puppet masters.

Evolution is both a Theory And a Fact!

http://www.nationalacademies.org/evoluti...

"Many scientific theories are so well-established that no new evidence is likely to alter them substantially. For example, no new evidence will demonstrate that the Earth does not orbit around the sun (heliocentric theory), or that living things are not made of cells (cell theory), that matter is not composed of atoms, or that the surface of the Earth is not divided into solid plates that have moved over geological timescales (the theory of plate tectonics). Like these other foundational scientific theories, the theory of evolution is supported by so many observations and confirming experiments that scientists are confident that the basic components of the theory will not be overturned by new evidence."

Snowgrinch, where do you get this stuff? Heliocentrism was a theory in the 16th century. Cell theory is called a theory because of viruses. They are not composed of cells and are arguably alive.

There are a lot of findings supporting evolutionary change, but the stretch that all life is the result of it is too much for anyone to state as fact.
