— A Vermont man was taken into custody Sunday night after he displayed a handgun in a dispute with a cab driver on Hoosick Street.

At about 9:30, Troy Police patrols were dispatched to the Popeye's parking lot at Hoosick and at 17th Street for a reported fare dispute in which a pedestrian displayed a handgun during a dispute with a cab driver. The subject possessing the weapon fled on foot, according to police; no shots were fired and no one was injured.

Police arrived at the scene and began a search of the immediate area for the offender. The suspect was located in the SEFCU parking lot on Hoosick above 17th. An officer attempted to detain him for further investigation, but he violently resisted efforts and use of force was necessary to safely detain him. A search of the area resulted in the discovery of a fully loaded handgun along the path taken by the suspect when he ran from the scene.

Arrested was Thomas Franqueira, 31, of 17 Hawkes Place, Bennington, Vt. He is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, second degree, and two counts of menacing. He will be arraigned in Troy Police Court this morning.
