Mayor Gary McCarthy's solution to the problem at 43 Moyston Street was to pile dirt in front of the vacant lot to keep vehicles from using the property for illegal activity Friday.

— A vexing situation on Moyston Street has been fixed, albeit not in the way resident Joe Rodriguez wanted.

City workers dumped a pile of dirt at the front of a vacant lot to stop prostitutes from driving in to have sex with their johns.

It’s not pretty, Rodriguez complained. But, he acknowledged, it will make the neighborhood quieter at night.

He had complained this week that prostitutes were once again bringing johns to the lot, which is near his house. He had stopped them long ago by building a fence, but had to take the fence down in September when the city took title to the property in a tax foreclosure.

Rodriguez doesn’t own the land, but got the owner’s permission to build a tall fence. However, the fence was illegal under the city’s code.

The city plans to sell the land.

Sell this lot to Rodriguez for $1. Put it back on the tax rolls and make every one happy.
Let him have a 4' chain link fence.

Couldnt Mr. Rodriguez or better yet, the city put up some lamp posts, or some kind of real BRIGHT lighting? If it were me, I'd put up some of the biggest motion light sensors, that it'd look like a football field! Bet that would put a stop to it real fast....cheaper alternative than fencing or police time.

I would install motion detectors that shine directly on the cars but delayed action by 3 or 4 minutes. That would really scare their pants off!

The fence was illegal but an ugly pile of dirt isn't. Swell.
