Police probe passing of counterfeit bills in Latham-Colonie area (with surveillance photos)
COLONIE The Colonie Police Department is investigating several incidents involving the passing of counterfeit money.
Police say there have been eight incidents in the past three weeks where counterfeit $20 and $100 bills were passed.
The counterfeit $20 bills are complete counterfeits that have been illegally printed with repeating serial numbers and the $100 bills are $5 bills that have been bleached and reprinted over with $100 information, police said, noting that the passing of the counterfeit $20 bills and passing of the counterfeit $100 bills do not appear to be related.
The investigation is being aided by the United States Secret Service.
The locations where the bills have been passed are:
Counterfeit $20 bills:
– Dunkin Donuts 667 and 688, Loudon Road
– Price Chopper, Loudon Road
– Burger King, Loudon Road
– Wendy’s, Loudon Road
– Target, Northway Mall
– Five Below and Party City in Latham Farms
A total of $540 was passed.
Counterfeit $100 bills:
– Burger King, Central Avenue
– Walgreens, Central Avenue
– Stewarts, Sand Creek Road
– CVS, Sand Creek Road.
A total of $500 was passed.
The suspects in the passing of the counterfeit $20 bills are described as: tall black male, baseball cap, black jacket, dark shirt and pants and white female with long dark hair and black blouse. They are driving a red, four-door sedan with a sunroof.
The suspects in the passing of the counterfeit $100 bills are described as: black male, blue jean jacket and long sideburns and a black female, heavy set, hair in a bun, black sweater and blue jeans.
