— Shenendehowa school district officials are reporting three cases of serious communicable diseases among its students in the last week.

The district reported that it has confirmed two cases of MRSA, an antibiotic-resistant staph infection. One case was reported at Gowana Middle School, the other at the high school.

The district said it has also been notified of one confirmed case of hepatitis A at Arongen Elementary School.

District spokeswoman Kelly DeFeciani said parents at those schools were notified of all three infections by email, and the information was posted through social media.

District officials said most people have been vaccinated for hepatitis A, which is usually spread by close personal contact.

On its website, the district is asking parents to emphasize good hygiene habits to students as the cold and flu season starts.
