Middleburgh parents told to watch out for scabies

The Middleburgh Central School district is alerting residents that an elementary school student was diagnosed with highly-contagious scabies and other students may have been exposed.

Scabies is a skin disease caused when a scabies mite burrows into the skin and produces pimple-like irritations, according to the website of the New York State Health Department.

It can be transferred by direct skin-to-skin contact and through clothing directly after contact by the infected person.
