Girls’ soccer: Cougars strike quickly
Brianna Slater, Melissa Bowley and Morgan Gray scored the first three goals of the contest less than three minutes apart midway through the first half, and Canajoharie went on to beat Mekeel Christian Academy, 5-1, in a Western Athletic Conference game.
Kara Schwab scored a second-half goal for the Cougars after assisting on two earlier, and Morgan Koelbl also scored. Lexie Holmes scored for the Lions.
Kelly Phillips sandwiched first-half goals around another by Erica Chase, and Lexy Hennessy added an insurance goal in the second frame to send Galway past Fort Plain, 4-1. Kaitlyn Trumbull tallied for the Hilltoppers.
Veronica Arceri had a goal and an assist, Charlotte Kalkbrenner and Lindsey Wadsworth also scored, Kelly VanNostrand picked up two assists and Joanna Schulte made 11 saves as Northville (4-4-2, 5-3-2) beat St. Johnsville, 3-0.
Anna Husain assisted on Hanna Cromie’s early goal and scored two herself later on to seal Mayfield’s 4-1 win against Sharon Springs.
Julie Hampton had a Mayfield goal assisted by Cromie, and Samantha Jackson tallied for Sharon Springs.
Ashley Lefebvre recorded a hat trick and assisted on a goal, and Emily Aubin and Abby Fountain had the other goals as Waterford-Halfmoon 5-3, 5-4) beat Doane Stuart, 5-0, in the Central Hudson Valley League.
Fiona Fittro scored both goals in Loudonville Christian’s 2-2 CHVL tie with Emma Willard.
