BURNT HILLS An 11-year-old Burnt Hills boy was killed Monday afternoon when a Dodge Caravan rolled over him as he attempted to stop it from rolling out onto Blue Barns Road, state police said.
Lane Rowe of 190 Blue Barns Road was pronounced dead at the scene of the 3:19 p.m. accident.
Police said the 2008 Dodge Caravan was unattended by an adult but occupied by passengers ages 12, 4, and 2 years old and was parked on an inclined driveway.
The van started rolling backwards and Lane Rowe tried to stop the vehicle from entering the roadway by getting behind the van to stop it and was pushed to the ground, police said.
The van came to rest on top of the boy. Police said the children were apparently in the car waiting for their mother to come out and drive the vehicle.
The investigation into the fatal accident is continuing by the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit which is trying to determine the sequence of events.
“Evidence thus far has determined that the vehicle rolled from the driveway southbound into the northbound shoulder of Blue Barns Road where the vehicle came to rest,” said a state police news release Monday night.
Burnt Hills is a hamlet in the town of Ballston, Saratoga County.
